Perplexity AI: A Conversational Twist on Search Engines

Today let’s look at an intriguing LLM search engine called Perplexity AI. This platform combines some of the features of a search engine and a chatbot, creating an interactive and efficient way to discover and share information. If that sounds like Bing or Bard, you’re not wrong

Perplexity AI is like having a knowledgeable friend who can answer your questions as you browse the internet. Created by Aravind Srinivas and his team on January 20, 2023, Perplexity AI attempts to make finding information more interactive by blending some aspects of search engines and chatbots.

Built using OpenAI’s GPT-3 technology, the platform gives you helpful summaries and answers in a friendly conversation. And the best part? Perplexity AI is completely free and doesn’t have any ads.

While ChatGPT excels at creating human-like text and has a great deal of knowledge tucked away in its trained data, it doesn’t focus on helping you find information the same way Perplexity AI does. With Perplexity AI, you get a blend of a search engine and an AI chatbot, making it a more useful tool for direct information discovery.

Bing, developed by Microsoft, has also been integrating OpenAI technology. Its well-known search engine gives you web search results based on your queries, with a sidebar of what the AI thinks will be useful. It also offers additional features like image search, video search, and news search. But in some indefinable way, Bing doesn’t feel as good at either the chat or the search side as Perplexity, although as a mainstream, established player in search it has a broader array of functionality.
